SOFIA, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev has tested positive for COVID-19, the government said in a statement on Monday evening.

Donchev, who is one of the country's four deputy prime ministers, tested positive in a routine check early on Monday, the statement said.

He is in good condition and without symptoms, the statement added.

At least three cabinet members have already tested positive for COVID-19 -- Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in October 2020, Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev in August 2020, and Finance Minister Kiril Ananiev on Jan. 20, 2021.

A total of 223,734 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the Balkan country so far, with a toll of 9,331.

As the world is struggling to contain the pandemic, vaccinations are underway in many European countries with authorized coronavirus vaccines.

However, according to latest data collated by Our World in Data, a scientific online publication that focuses on large global problems, cumulative COVID-19 vaccination doses administered per 100 people in Bulgaria are 0.82.

Meanwhile, 238 candidate vaccines are still being developed worldwide - 63 of them in clinical trials - in countries including Germany, China, Russia, Britain and the United States, according to information released by the World Health Organization on Feb. 2. Enditem
