TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Iranian spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Saeed Khatibzadeh on Monday called for formation of a comprehensive government in Afghanistan.
"The composition of the (next Afghan) government should represent the population" of Afghanistan, Khatibzadeh said during his weekly press conference.
Iran has been following the latest Afghanistan developments closely and has been in contact with all parties.
Iran has encouraged the parties to reduce their differences in Afghanistan, he said, adding that Tehran calls on all conflictual sides to pursue dialogue and restraint.
The Pakistani foreign minister will visit Iran on Thursday and one of the aims of his visit is to exchange views pertaining to the issues of Afghanistan, Khatibzadeh noted. Enditem
