JERUSALEM, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Israel's health ministry reported a daily new high of 10,947 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, surpassing the previous record of 10,118 registered on Jan. 18 this year and bringing the nationwide caseload to 1,066,352.
The ministry also reported 53 new deaths from the virus, taking the death toll in the country to 7,043.
The number of patients in serious condition decreased from 731 to 719, the ministry said.
The total recoveries from the virus climbed to 975,767 after 6,546 newly recovered cases were reported, while active cases increased to 83,542, it added.
The number of people who have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Israel surpassed 5.97 million, or 64 percent of its total population, while over 5.48 million have taken two doses and nearly 2.16 million have got three jabs. Enditem
