BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The highly-anticipated war film "The Battle at Lake Changjin" has been rescheduled for Sept. 30 in Chinese theaters, vying for the lucrative box office of the National Day holiday starting Oct. 1.
Jointly directed by Chen Kaige, Hark Tsui and Dante Lam -- all big names in the Chinese film industry -- the movie follows the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) in a courageous battle during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953).
It features a star-studded cast led by Wu Jing and Jackson Yee and tells the story of CPV soldiers fighting bravely in freezing temperatures in a key campaign around Changjin Lake.
More than 600,000 internet users on the film data platform Maoyan have expressed interest in seeing the film as of Friday.
"The Battle at Lake Changjin" dropped an originally set Aug. 12 release as multiple films postponed their releases last month due to a COVID-19 resurgence, which according to health officials has now been controlled.
China completed this year's summer movie season covering the period from June 1 to Aug. 31 with a total box office revenue of 7.38 billion yuan (about 1.14 billion U.S. dollars).
It is against nearly 18 billion yuan recorded during the three-month period in 2019 before COVID-19 struck, according to data from Maoyan. Enditem
