HONG KONG, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported six new imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the total tally to 12,129.

According to the CHP, a total of 66 cases have been reported in the past 14 days and all of them were imported cases.

Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam Tuesday said that since the epidemic situation in the mainland has stabilized, the "Return2hk" travel scheme which allows Hong Kong residents returning from the mainland or the Macao Special Administrative Region to be exempted from quarantine will resume from Wednesday.

Non-Hong Kong residents from the mainland and Macao will also be exempted from the compulsory quarantine upon arrival under a travel scheme which will be launched on Sept. 15, Lam said.

These visitors need to meet certain requirements, including possession of a valid proof of a negative nucleic acid test result. A daily quota of 2,000 has been set initially, she added.

Lam said, according to the new mechanism, Hong Kong will also recognize vaccination records issued by several countries such as India, Malaysia, Pakistan and Thailand, after similar official documents released by the Philippines and Indonesia were previously accepted by the HKSAR authorities.

In Hong Kong, more than 7.88 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered since the launch of its vaccination drive on Feb. 26 this year.

More than 4.26 million people, or about 63.3 percent of the eligible population, have taken at least one shot of the vaccine, and more than 3.62 million people have been fully vaccinated. Enditem
