ANKARA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Turkey on Monday detained at least 33 people in simultaneous operations across the country for alleged links to a network implementing a coup attempt in 2016, semi-official Anadolu Agency reported.

The prosecutors of the northwestern Balikesir province issued arrest warrants for 42 suspects over a probe for infiltration of members of the Gulen movement into the Turkish Armed Forces.

The detained included dismissed and active-duty officers as well as dismissed military cadets.

Prosecutors said the suspects have alleged connections with the network headed by the U.S.-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen.

The Turkish government blames Gulen and his network for masterminding the coup bid in July 2016, in which 250 people were killed.

The Turkish government has launched a massive crackdown on suspects with links to the network in the aftermath of the coup attempt. Enditem
