TEHRAN, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The international community should send urgent aid to Afghanistan to alleviate the humanitarian situation in the country, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said, according to a report by Tasnim news agency on Tuesday.

The Afghan people are in a deplorable situation and the international community should fulfil its responsibility to help them, Amir Abdollahian said in a virtual meeting on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan chaired by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Monday.

Iran is ready to facilitate the dispatch of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and will keep all its borders open to help maintain activities of common markets and cross-border trade with Afghans, he said.

The Iranian foreign minister stressed Iran's position on the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, saying that his country eyes "an Afghanistan free of terrorism and drugs where the Afghan people themselves can decide their future."

Amir Abdollahian blamed the United States for the current situation in Afghanistan, noting Washington created the tragedies. Enditem
