JERUSALEM, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv achieved a 4-1 home win against Armenian champions Alashkert FC in the first round of Group A of UEFA Conference League on Tuesday evening.

The match was played in front of 6,934 fans at Bloomfield Stadium in Jaffa, the southern part of the coastal city of Tel Aviv-Jaffa.

It has been moved up by two days following a request from the Israeli team because Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, will be marked on Thursday.

Maccabi's Croatian striker Stipe Perica scored the first goal in the 13th minute, after a pass by Dan Biton, but the Armenian side equalized after just 4 minutes, with a long-range shot by Portuguese forward Jose Embalo.

The Tel Aviv club regained the lead in the 32nd minute, by midfielder Gabi Kanichowsky, after a pass from Biton.

Maccabi's third goal was scored by Biton on penalty, seconds before the end of the first half after the Panamanian striker Eduardo Guerrero was fouled inside the box by Taron Voskanyan.

Maccabi sealed the win in the 72nd minute by Matan Hozez, after a pass by Perica.

In the second round of Group A, Maccabi Tel Aviv will face Lask in Klagenfurt, Austria, while Alashkert will host the Finnish side HJK Helsinki in Yerevan - with both matches to be played on September 30. Enditem
