The Beidaying military camp, a historical site in northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang, is undergoing renovation. It is set to reopen to visitors as an exhibition hall to memorize the painful history during the war against Japanese aggression.

On September 18, 1931, Japanese troops blew up a section of railway in Shenyang, and accused of the Chinese military of the act. Using the blast as an excuse, the Japanese attacked the Beidaying military camp, where the Chinese army was garrisoned, and Shenyang city.

The attack, known as the September 18th Incident, marks the outbreak of the war of Japanese aggression against China.

The relics of the Beidaying military camp were first discovered in 2010.

In 2018, a renovation project was initiated by local government to rebuild it into an historical exhibition hall.

Covering an area of more than 11,000 square meters, the hall is to display more than 1,400 items.

It is also expected to virtually recreate historical scenes through various multimedia techniques as a reminder of the painful history.
