XI'AN, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- After three rounds in the group stage, Team United, Shanghai, Shaanxi and Beijing reached the women's soccer semifinals at China's 14th National Games on Monday.
Host Shaanxi edged Jiangsu 4-3 on Monday afternoon on penalties after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Shaanxi held a solid defense at the beginning of the game. However, after 70 minutes, Wu Chengshu broke through at a high speed and scored for Jiangsu on a counterattack.
In the last minute, Shaanxi scored from a corner kick.
"In recent years, Shaanxi has established women's soccer echelons. I hope my team will play steadily and go farther," said Liu Huana, head coach of Shaanxi.
Also on Monday, Beijing beat Shandong 2-1.
In the semifinals on Thursday, Team United meets Beijing, and Shanghai faces Shaanxi. Enditem
