Zhejiang swimmers win two golds at China's National Games

XI'AN, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Zhejiang swimmers took two of four gold medals on offer at China's 14th National Games here on Tuesday.

Olympic champion Wang Shun stood atop the podium in the men's 200m freestyle with a time of one minute and 46.14 seconds. Hong Jinquan, also from Zhejiang, took the bronze medal.

In the men's 100m backstroke, Xu Jiayu earned Zhejiang another gold in 53.26 seconds.

The women's 100 backstroke gold medal went to Peng Xuwei from Hubei in 59.31 seconds. World champion Fu Yuanhui, representing Zhejiang, won a bronze.

Tuesday was China's Mid-Autumn Festival, which signifies completeness and reunions.

After walking down the podium, Fu, a famous figure among sports fans due to her loveable character, made several gestures to interact with the enthusiastic audience.

"As a senior swimmer, I have to put more effort competing with younger rivals," Fu said.

The 2022 Asian Games will be held in Fu's hometown of Hangzhou in Zhejiang. "I will try my best to qualify for it," she said.

Yu Jingyao of Beijing snatched the women's 100m breaststroke title in one minute and 5.63 seconds.

Olympic champion Zhang Yufei from Jiangsu failed to reach the women's 200m freestyle final with a time of two minutes and 1.44 seconds, while double Olympic gold medalist Ye Shiwen of Zhejiang eased into the women's 200m individual medley final. Enditem
