Jedexoi town in Gonggar County in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region is known as the hometown of "Bangdian," a kind of colorful striped apron made by the Tibetan ethnic group.

Bangdian has a history of about 1,500 years. Its weaving techniques were listed in 2006 as one of China's state-level intangible cultural heritages.

In Jedexoi town, almost every household is involved in Bangdian weaving.

Karri is a renowned inheritor of Bangdian weaving techniques.

"The woven Bangdian items are very popular on the market because of their bright colors and exquisite patterns. As an inheritor of the weaving technique, I cherish this skill. I also have the confidence to inherit and carry it forward," said Karri.

While protecting and inheriting the intangible cultural heritage, Karri also helps increase the incomes of local people.

"Now, a piece of Bangdian can be sold for 300 yuan (46 U.S. dollars) in Lhasa, and the wholesale price ranges from 250 to 280 yuan (39 to 43 U.S. dollars). After deducting the trainees' salary, cost of raw materials, pigments and others, my annual net income is about 180,000 yuan (27,800 U.S. dollars)," said Karri.
