MEXICO CITY, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Mexico striker Rogelio Funes Mori scored one goal and created another as Monterrey clinched a 2-0 home win over Toluca in their Liga MX Apertura clash on Wednesday.
Argentina-born Mori, who made his international debut for Mexico in July just weeks after becoming a naturalized citizen, provided the pass for Jesus Gallardo to head home Monterrey's first goal just before halftime.
Funes Mori made it 2-0 by meeting an Arturo Gonzalez cross with a precise 83rd-minute header.
Toluca were unlucky not to score, with Kevin Castaneda, Pedro Canelo and Rubens Sambueza all hitting the woodwork in the second half.
The result leaves Monterrey third in the 18-team standings, just three points behind second-placed Toluca and leaders Club America. Enditem
