TASHKENT, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The heads of border authorities of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan held a meeting to discuss issues related to the transit of goods being imported to Afghanistan, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said Monday.

Transit of essential goods such as food, medicine, clothing, fuel and lubricants was discussed during the meeting held at Uzbekistan's border town of Termez at the request of the Afghan side, it said.

Following the meeting, "an agreement was reached to take a number of measures aimed at solving problems with transit and delivery of goods to Afghanistan, in connection with the difficult humanitarian situation in this country," the ministry said.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said earlier this month that his country was ready for a dialogue with the Taliban movement in Afghanistan and that they have been in daily contact.

Uzbekistan also handed over this month 1,300 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, including food, medicine and clothing. Enditem
