RAMALLAH, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least 90 Palestinian protesters were injured on Friday by Israeli soldiers in clashes near the northern West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian medics and witnesses said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that at least 90 Palestinians were injured by Israeli soldiers in the clashes that broke out in the villages of Beita and Beit Dajan near the city.

It said that 30 protesters were shot by rubber-coated metal bullets, and 60 others inhaled tear gas fired by the Israeli soldiers to disperse them.

On Friday afternoon, the witnesses said that dozens of Palestinian demonstrators gathered in the two villages, waved Palestinian flags, chanted slogans against Israel, burned tires, and threw stones at the Israeli army forces in the area.

For nearly five months, Palestinians from Beita and the neighboring villages have been holding almost daily protests against Israel's construction of an settlement outpost on Jabal Sabih mount, which is adjacent to the village. Enditem
