TRIPOLI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- A group of illegal migrants were taken to a temporary reception center in the capital of Tripoli, days after they escaped from a detention center in the city.

"Treatment here is good. We were beaten at the previous reception center and there was no water, but now thing are better here," Mohamed Ibrahim, a Sudanese migrant, told Xinhua.

"There are about 1,277 migrants, including women and children. We provided them with medical care. Some of them are hurt, but they are now fine," Lieutenant Ziyad khalid, director of the center, told Xinhua.

A few days ago, a group of migrants escaped from a detention center in the capital, as the Libyan authorities carried out raid and arrests against illegal migrants in different parts of the city.

At least one person has been reportedly killed, 15 injured, and more than 5,000 people arrested and held in several detention centres in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Libya has been suffering insecurity and chaos since the fall of late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, making the North African country a preferred point of departure for illegal migrants who want to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores. Enditem
