BARRANQUILLA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Everton defender Yerry Mina had a late goal ruled out for handball as Colombia had to settle for a goalless home draw with Ecuador in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier here on Thursday.

Mina appeared to break the deadlock in the 10th minute of stoppage time with a low shot during a scramble inside the penalty area following Juan Cuadrado's long throw-in.

But Peruvian referee Diego Haro ruled that Mina illegally made contact with his right hand in the build-up after consulting the video assistant referee.

Colombia dominated possession and looked more dangerous throughout the match but were unable to find a way past veteran Ecuador goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez.

The 34-year-old made a series of fine saves, including superb reflex efforts to deny Duvan Zapata and Luis Diaz in the second half.

Earlier, Colombian keeper David Ospina did well to keep out dangerous long-range attempts from Angel Mena and Moises Caicedo.

The result at Estadio Metropolitano in Barranquilla left Ecuador with 17 points from 12 matches, one point ahead of Colombia in the South American zone qualifying group. Enditem
