BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.4 percent, at 3,572.37 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.52 percent higher at 14,415.99 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 989 billion yuan (about 153.6 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 860.8 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to coal and semiconductor chip posted strong performance, while those associated with education, pork and medical cosmetology were weak.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.88 percent to close at 3,276.32 points. Enditem
