BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Japan and host nation China split the four titles at the 2021 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy here on Friday.

In the second and last competition day of the Asian Open, which is also a Beijing 2022 test event, world champions and Olympic silver medalists Sui Wenjing and Han Cong collected 144.21 points in the free skating to win the pairs with a total of 223.48 points.

Sui said that she felt a bit tight in the free skating. "One of the reasons was a lack of strength."

"Although we completed the routine without big mistakes, there were still some flaws," Sui added. "Figure skating is a combination of strength, speed and art."

"We will definitely raise the degree of difficulty in our routine before the Beijing Olympics. We are confident of keeping in good shape in the Olympic competition," said Han.

The pairs and ice dance events featured only Chinese competitors. China's No. 2 pair of Peng Cheng and Jin Yang finished second with 196.68 points, followed by Wang Yuchen and Huang Yihan with 174.37 points.

The ice dance competition saw only two pairs from China. Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu beat Chen Hong and Sun Zhuoming to claim the title.

Japan continued its dominance in the men's and women's short programs and led the free skating to secure a one-two finish in the singles events.

18-year-old Yuma Kagiyama, who took silver at the Stockholm Worlds in March, scored 179.98 points in the free skating to win the men's singles with 277.78 points, followed by his 17-year-old compatriot Shun Sato with 256.16 points. China's No. 1 Jin Boyang finished third in 224.09 points.

The women's singles saw gold and silver go to Mai Mihara and Kaori Sakamoto respectively, and the bronze to Joanna So of Hong Kong, China. Enditem
