BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.22 percent at 3,594.78 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.05 percent lower at 14,444.86 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 993 billion yuan (about 155.4 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.02 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to coal and phosphorus chemical industries posted strong growth, while those in the green energy and semiconductor sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.17 percent to close at 3,279.49 points. Enditem
