BERLIN, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- FlixMobility has bought Greyhound Lines for around 172 million U.S. dollars, the German transport company announced on Thursday.
Flixmobility said that its acquisition of the largest provider of long-distance bus transportation in the United States was an important step in its mission of providing "easy-to-use, affordable, and environmentally friendly travel for consumers across the globe."
"The continuous expansion of our services through partnerships and acquisitions has always been an integral part of our growth strategy to build our global presence," said Jochen Engert, CEO of FlixMobility. "The acquisition of Greyhound is a major step forward in the U.S."
The German company operates under the Flixbus brand in the long-distance bus market, with more than 400,000 daily connections and 2,500 destinations in 36 countries outside the United States. Flixbus has been operating in the United States since 2018.
Greyhound currently connects 2,400 destinations in North America, with nearly 16 million passengers per year. The company previously belonged to the British transport group FirstGroup.
