Roundup: Multiple fatal shootings reported in several U.S. states during Thanksgiving holiday

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The past weekend marked the first Thanksgiving holiday in a post-vaccine era, allowing Americans to reunite with their families, but a slew of shooting incidents brought tragedies to families during a time meant to share happiness and celebration.

Officials in Chicago, Illinois reported a violent Thanksgiving Day holiday in the city that resulted in 42 shooting victims between Wednesday night and Monday morning. Eleven of them died from their injuries, CBS Chicago reported.

The first fatal shooting happened at 12:29 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of West 79th Street in Auburn Gresham, where police said a 30-year-old man was shot at while standing in an alley. He was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Another fatal shooting happened at 1:25 a.m. Friday in the 3700 block of West Chicago Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. Police said a 23-year-old was standing in the lot of a gas station when someone in a black sedan fired shots into his chest. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

At 3:38 p.m. Friday, a 25-year-old man was shot in the 2900 block of West Fulton Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood and later died. The man was in front of a business when a vehicle pulled by and someone inside opened fire and struck him, according to police.

At 8:28 p.m. Friday, a 27-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 3900 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 6:09 a.m. Saturday, a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 3100 block of West 26th Street in Little Village. He was pronounced dead after being sent to a hospital, police said.

At 2:15 p.m. Saturday, a 27-year-old man was shot and killed in the 9000 block of South Commercial Avenue in South Chicago. The man was on the sidewalk when being shot and was pronounced dead soon afterward at a hospital, police said.

At 12:51 a.m. Sunday, a man was found in a gangway in the 2800 block of South Wallace Street in Bridgeport with gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old man was found on the floor of a bedroom on the 0-99 block of North Lockwood Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was being investigated by police.

At 4:25 a.m. Sunday, a 34-year-old man was shot and killed in the 7800 block of South Rhodes Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing community. Sitting on the sidewalk, he was shot in the head by a gunman who drove past him. The victim was pronounced dead in a hospital.

At 6:04 p.m. Sunday, a man of an unknown age was shot dead in a parking lot in the 11100 block of South Longwood Drive in Morgan Park. He was shot in the chest and neck and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

At about 2:40 a.m. Monday, a 16-year-old boy was sitting in the passenger seat of a car in a parking garage on the 800 block of South Wabash Avenue in the South Loop, when he was shot twice in the face. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In addition to the fatal shootings, a man was stabbed to death at 3:15 a.m. Friday in the 6800 block of South Talman Avenue in Chicago Lawn.

Meanwhile in the Houston-area in the state of Texas, ABC13 tracked at least six people killed and three hurt from separate shootings and a stabbing from Friday to Saturday.

Another tragedy happened on Thanksgiving night during a family gathering in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, involving the killing of five-year-old by a 13-year-old. Police are trying to figure out how the older child got his hands on the gun while adults were present at the time of the shooting.
