HEFEI, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) --A power plant located in Nanqiao district, east China's Anhui Province has been burning straw and forestry wastes for power generation. The power plant digests approximately 300,000 tonnes of wastes each year and generates 240 million kWh of electricity.

Biomass power plants turn domestic garbage, agricultural and forestry wastes into fuel before converting them into electricity.

Biomass energy constitutes an integral part of renewable energy. China's installed capacity of renewable energy power generation reached 1.002 billion kilowatts by the end of October this year, doubling that at the end of 2015, data from the National Energy Administration show. The installed biomass power capacity reached 35.34 million kilowatts, continuing to rank first globally.

China has announced that it will strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
