KUWAIT CITY, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait reported on Wednesday 12 new cases of the Omicron variant, the Kuwaiti Health Ministry said.

Abdullah Al-Sanad, the spokesman of the ministry, said in a statement that the 12 cases of Omicron were coming from several European countries and quarantine has been applied along with all preventive and health measures.

Al-Sanad pointed out the need to adhere to the application of quarantine for those coming from outside the country, calling on citizens and residents to adhere to health instructions, the most important of which is to take the booster dose of the vaccine, avoid unsafe gatherings and maintain social distancing.

He stressed the necessity of postponing travel at present, and limiting it to cases of necessity, to ensure the highest level of protection and prevention.

Meanwhile, the ministerial committee on coronavirus emergency stressed on Wednesday the need to tighten the application of health requirements in the coming period to limit coronavirus spread in the country.

Kuwait decided on Monday to impose new travel restrictions to contain the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

On Nov. 27, Kuwait announced to suspend direct flights with nine African countries over Omicron concerns. Enditem
