KAMPALA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Police in Uganda on Sunday described the Saturday night bomb blast in the capital Kampala as an act of domestic terror.

Fred Enanga, police spokesman in a statement issued here said three people disguised as customers at an eating point in Komamboga, a Kampala suburb, detonated an improvised explosive device after leaving the scene.

"One of them was carrying a polythene bag, containing unknown items that he placed under the table," Enanga said.

"The suspects who appeared friendly interacted with other customers and placed more rounds of drinks and bites for them. They disappeared afterward, abandoning their package at the scene," he added.

The device, according to police bomb experts, was made out of local materials including nails and other metallic fragments.

"All indications suggest an act of domestic terror," Enanga said.

He noted that investigators have got some good leads to the identity of the three culprits.

Enanga said the motive of the suspected terrorists is not yet known.

Police revised the number of dead and injured downward to one person dead and three critically injured. Police had earlier reported that two people had died and seven were critically injured.

Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements.

Enanga said in this particular incident, the eating place was crowded and operating during curfew time imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni earlier on Sunday said the perpetrators of the bomb attack would be arrested.

"It seems to be a terrorist act but we shall get the perpetrators. The public should not fear, we shall defeat this criminality like we have defeated all the other criminality," Museveni tweeted.

The blast came days after the British and French embassies here issued a security alert to their citizens, warning of a terror attack. Enditem
