TRIPOLI, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Sunday said that 56 illegal migrants, including women and children, have been rescued and returned to Libya.

"Another boat was returned this morning to Tripoli. Fifty-six persons were on board of a wooden boat departing from Zuwara," UNHCR tweeted.

"UNHCR partner IRC treated minor injuries and assisted survivors with symptoms of hypothermia," UNHCR said.

Over the past two days, a total of 370 illegal migrants, including women and children, have been rescued and returned to Libya.

Libya has been suffering insecurity and chaos since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, making the North African country a preferred point of departure for illegal migrants who want to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores.

Rescued migrants end up inside overcrowded reception centers across Libya, despite repeated international calls to close those centers. Enditem
