DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The government of Tanzania has set aside 1.3 billion Tanzanian shillings (about 565,000 U.S. dollars) for the construction of a center for sports excellence in the east African nation, a senior official said on Saturday.

Pauline Gekul, the Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, said the funds will be used for the construction of a center of sports excellence in the 2021/2022 financial year that started on July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.

"The center of sports excellence will be built at Malya in Mwanza region to groom young talents in various sports in efforts aimed at making Tanzania to perform magnificently in regional and international sports competitions," Gekul told a news conference in the capital Dodoma.

Gekul added that the government has identified 56 schools across the country that will specifically train students with sports talents to excel better.

She said the government was also in the process of creating a curriculum for sports subjects in high schools, adding that a special fund for sports will be launched by the government soon to support sports activities in the country. Enditem
