LONDON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Police confirmed on Friday that two people who were injured in a London Bridge terror incident have died and three others were treated in hospital.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan also confirmed the deaths, saying "Heartbreaking confirmation from the Met Commissioner that two people who were attacked this afternoon have tragically died -- victims of the appalling terrorist attack at London Bridge."

"London will never be cowed by terrorism. Terrorism will never win," said Khan.

Meanwhile, City of London police said additional police officers would be on the streets of the Square Mile over the weekend for public safety.

"This is to help reassure those who are understandably concerned," said City of London police.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it was an ongoing investigation.

"Clearly the Metropolitan Police are continuing their investigations and I can assure you, and assure everyone that anybody involved in this crime, in these attacks will be hunted down and will be brought to justice," said Johnson.

The police have earlier declared the attack "a terrorist incident" and confirmed the death of the male suspect at the scene.

Neil Basu, the head of UK counter-terrorism policing, said: "A male suspect was shot by specialist armed officers from City of London Police and I can confirm that this suspect died at the scene."
