WELLINGTON, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand state schools will receive a capital input for school property improvement next year, announced New Zealand government on Sunday.
The capital injection is valued at 693 New Zealand dollars per student to update school infrastructures. It is said to be the biggest capital injection for school maintenance funding in at least 25 years.
"This package is a real shot in the arm for our schools, giving them the opportunity to fix roofs, windows and walls to provide modern, comfortable classrooms that are great for kids to learn in," said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The one-off cash injection is the first project to be announced from New Zealand government's infrastructure package to future proof the economy and will see some schools receive up to 400,000 NZ dollars to spend on needed upgrades.
The total value of the package is 396 million New Zealand dollars.
The capital investment will be spent on classroom upgrades, roof and gutter replacement, storm water drainage systems upgrades, energy efficient heating and lighting, and Installing resurfacing outdoor courts and paved areas. (1 New Zealand dollar equals 0.64 U.S. dollars)
