LOME, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese embassy, as well as the Chinese community in the West African country Togo, have donated food and non-food stuffs to orphans and vulnerable children in the country.
Chinese Ambassador to Togo Chao Weidong handed over the donation to the Togolese ministry of social action, women and literacy advancement on Wednesday in the capital Lome.
The donation consisted of 10 tons of rice, tomato pasta, alimentary pastes, biscuits, detergents, tea, sandals, toys, and school supplies, and was purposed to enable about 6,000 needy children celebrate the festive season and the New Year.
"The sweetest happiness is the one we share", Chao said in his speech during the donation ceremony.
"The donation is the assertion of our willingness to contribute to a better standard of life of needy children in the country", he said.
Tchabinandi Kolani Yentchare, Togolese minister for social action, women and literacy advancement, welcomed the donation and hailed the "faithful and loving" action of the Chinese community in favor of vulnerable Togolese children.
About 6,000 abandoned and vulnerable children hosted in reception centers across the country will benefit from the donations, she said.
