AMMAN, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Tuesday decided to raise the prices of several types of fuel.

The Ministry of Energy said in a statement that the government decided to raise the prices of unleaded 90 and 95 octane gasoline as of January, 2020. The hike in gas prices will range between 1-3 percent.

Prices of oil derivatives in the local market are calculated based on international prices, in addition to other costs, including shipping and taxes.

The government said the increase in fuel prices follows the increase in prices of oil globally.

Also on Tuesday, the government announced that it would not raise the prices of electricity.

Jordan imports about 96 percent of its energy needs, according to the Ministry of Energy.
