BANGKOK, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Surayud Chulanont has been named as president of Thailand's Privy Council.
Last Thursday, King Maha Vajiralongkorn appointed Surayud as president of the Privy Council with immediate effect to replace Prem Tinsulanonda who passed away last year, according to the Royal Gazette on Saturday.
Surayud had performed as acting president of the Privy Council following Prem's death.
Before being named acting Privy Council president, Surayud had assumed the post of privy councilor for many years.
He assumed the post of privy councilor twice in the time of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and maintained it since the current king practically rose to the throne in late 2016.
