TASHKENT, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Uzbek sum, the national currency of Uzbekistan, weakened by 13.9 percent against the U.S. dollar in 2019 amid price liberalization and economic reforms in the country, the press service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said Wednesday.

The sum weakened from 8,341 per dollar at the beginning of 2019 to 9,501 per dollar by the year end, according to the central bank.

The central bank decided in August 2019 to remove the limit on its exchange rate fluctuations and establish a floating rate for the national currency.
