BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's health news from the past week:
-- Over 60 pct of elderly Chinese have doctor within 2 km
Over 60 percent of elderly Chinese people have access to medical services within 2 km of their homes, according to a report issued by the China Research Center on Aging.
Nearly 40 percent of elderly people were eager to receive medical services at home, said the report.
The report also showed that elderly people needed rehabilitation nursing, psychological counseling, health education services and care at home to help them deal with chronic diseases.
-- China unveils typical cases on food, drug safety
Chinese authorities unveiled 15 typical cases related to food and drug safety Thursday to provide guidance for severely punishing criminal acts endangering food and drug safety in accordance with the law.
The cases involve illegal business practices, the manufacture and sale of counterfeit drugs, as well as the sale of fake liquor or harmful food, among others.
The 15 cases, eight related to food safety and seven involving drug safety, include major cases involving hundreds of millions of yuan and new cases of illegal and criminal acts committed via the internet.
-- China eyes medical insurance system for all
China would accelerate building a medical insurance system that covers its entire population through a new round of medical insurance reform.
The reform would optimize the current basic medical insurance system, which covers 95 percent of the population, and seek to complement it with other forms of medical insurance, including commercial health insurance, a medical relief system and charity medical donations.
The core task of the new round of reform is to make the development of the medical insurance more balanced and sufficient and to address institutional obstacles. Enditem
