ABUJA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- An air raid by the Nigerian military has destroyed another training camp operated by Boko Haram group in the country's northeast region, a spokesman for the air force said on Tuesday.
The training camp located at Tumbun Zarami, an area on the fringes of the Lake Chad in the northeastern state of Borno, was destroyed on Sunday, said Ibikunle Daramola, the spokesman of the air force.
The mission was conducted after successive days of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, as well as intelligence reports from multiple sources, including the Multinational Joint Task Force headquarters, Daramola said.
The intelligence reports had revealed that training activities were being carried out in and around some makeshift structures hidden under the shrubbery within the settlement, he said, adding consequently, the air force detailed its attack aircraft to engage the "Training Camp 4".
The attack aircraft scored accurate hits which led to the destruction of the suspected camp commander's house as well as some other structures within the camp, the air force's mouthpiece said.
Operating in concert with ground troops, he added that the air force would sustain its air campaign to shape the battlespace in the northeast region for the conduct of further operations. Enditem
