OSLO, Feb. 30 (Xinhua) -- Japan dominated the ISU World Sprint Championships as Takagi Miho and Shinhama Tatsuya both claimed the gold medal in the sprint events on Saturday.

Takagi becomes the first female skater to win both the World Sprint title and the World All-round title, which she won in 2018, since Anni Friesinger-Postma of Germany achieved it in 2007.

After two-day sprint competition, Takagi won the gold with an overall total of 148.870 points while defending champion Kodaira Nao and Olga Fatkulina of Russia took silver and bronze respectively.

Tatsuya secured men's ISU World Sprint title with a 0.235 point lead over Canada's Laurent Dubreuil, becoming the first male skater from Japan to win the title since Akira Kuroiwa in 1987.

Shinhama's victory also means Japan is the first country to clinch men's and women's gold at one World Sprint Championships since 2010.
