BEIRUT, March 6 (Xinhua) -- French Ambassador to Lebanon Bruno Foucher said that the government of Prime Minister Hassan Diab is the only chance for Lebanon to solve its financial and economic crises.

"Paris has decided to deal with Diab's cabinet as Lebanon is going through a very dangerous crisis, and the priority is to solve the country's issues as soon as possible," Foucher was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper, on Friday.

Foucher said that French companies are looking forward to returning to work in Lebanon in sectors, including oil and gas.

The ambassador added that France will help Lebanon, in response to a demand by director general of the Health Ministry, to fight against COVID-19 by supplying the country with equipment to restrict the spread of the virus.

Lebanon has been facing multiple challenges lately, most importantly, its incapacity to repay its public debt, which has reached an alarming level of over 90 billion U.S. dollars.

The country needs to implement serious structural reforms in a bid to be able to curb its budget deficit and public debt.
