TIRANA, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Albania reported its first confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday, the country's health ministry has said.

A father, 54, and his son, 28, tested positive for the virus after returning from northern Italy in late February, the ministry said in a statement.

Both patients, who are hospitalised in the capital Tirana, are in stable conditions, and epidemiological investigations into the cases have been conducted, it added.

The ministry urged all citizens who have traveled to coronavirus-affected countries and have flu-like symptoms to call the national emergency number 127.

About 400,000 Albanians live in neighbouring Italy, the European country hit worst by coronavirus, with infections exceeding 7,300.
