WUHAN, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, has placed two officials under investigation after a funeral vehicle was allegedly misused to transport daily supplies.

Ao Hao, head of the funeral administration of Wuhan's Huangpi district, was sacked from his post and put under investigation, while Luo Wenjun, vice head of the district's civil affairs bureau, was also being probed, said the district's headquarters on the epidemic prevention and control.

The district's discipline watchdog launched an investigation after receiving reports from the public that a local community used a funeral vehicle to transport group-purchase goods.

Investigators found the vehicle was used by its contractor surnamed Lyu to transport daily supplies to his relative on Saturday. The goods were purchased by Lyu, the headquarters said, denouncing his act for causing baleful social effects.

The funeral administration has been urged to cancel the contract with Lyu.

Many residents in closed-off Wuhan communities have relied on online group purchase to deliver daily necessities during the outbreak.
