BERLIN, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Several German television and radio stations changed their programs on Monday in order to offer schoolchildren in Germany an opportunity to learn at home.
Most German states closed all schools from Monday onwards to stem the spread of the coronavirus, other states are to follow in the coming days. Schools in Germany are scheduled to be closed for a total of four to five weeks, including the Easter holidays.
Bavarian radio and television (BR) in partnership with the Bavarian state ministry announced that they will broadcast selected educational material with a wide range of learning content from mathematics and geography to biology, social studies and history.
"It is important that we offer our pupils various ways to work on lesson subjects from home," said Bavarian minister of state for education and culture, Michael Piazolo.
"Especially in this extraordinary time," the children's television channel Kika by Germany's public broadcaster ARD and ZDF would provide "a mix" of information programs, news and documentaries for children of all ages.
