MALABO, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Equatorial Guinea declared a "National State of Alarm" due to COVID-19, according to a government decree published on Saturday on the official website of the government.
According to the decree, a special national emergency fund is being created to combat the novel coronavirus. The government will contribute with 5 billions CFA francs (about 8.18 millions U.S. dollars).
The country in central Africa reported its first confirmed case of COVID-19 on March 14, and has 6 cases by now, all of them imported, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
Equatorial Guinea has closed its borders and applied social distancing since March 15 to stop the spread of the virus.
