U.S. ambassador to Burkina Faso tested positive for COVID-19

OUAGADOUGOU, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. ambassador to Burkina Faso announced on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso.

"I received a positive test for COVID-19," wrote Andrew Young, U.S. ambassador to Burkina Faso, on his personal twitter account.

"The U.S. embassy to Burkina Faso has taken measures to quarantine embassy's affected members," said the U.S. diplomat.

So far, Burkina Faso has officially reported 75 cases and five death cases of COVID-19, including four ministers.

The government on Friday evening announced a curfew throughout the territory from 7 p.m. (19:00 GMT) to 5 a.m., and closure of land, air and rail borders. These measures were effective from midnight March 21.
