Chinese shares rebound Tuesday

BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended higher Tuesday, recovering some lost ground seen in the past trading days.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended 2.34 percent higher at 2,722.44 points while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.37 percent higher at 9,921.68 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 712.5 billion yuan (about 100 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 687.41 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Automibile companies were among the biggest winners, with shares of Great Wall Motor Company Limited, a domestic automaker, surging by the daily limit of 10 percent.

Shares related to 5G technology and data centers also registered strong performance on latest government announcement to speed up the construction of 5G networks.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.73 percent to close at 1,876.91 points.
