HOUSTON, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Dallas County in the U.S. state of Texas voted on Friday to extend the COVID-19 stay-at-home order until May 20.
The extension was approved by county commissioners. With the extension, all current rules put into place to slow the spread of COVID-19 will stay in place for another month and a half. The original order was set to expire Friday night.
"We are working with the health care community and the business community to put together the best way to save as many lives as possible," Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said during Friday morning's debate at commissioner's court.
Dallas County is the state's first county to extend the restrictions until May. Harris County, which includes Houston, has prolonged its order until April 30.
There are more than 800 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Dallas County, including 17 deaths.
