BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
COMPUTER GIANT
A total of 2.72 million units of computers were churned out in March at LCFC (Hefei) Electronics Technology Co., Ltd, the largest PC R&D and manufacturing base of Chinese tech giant Lenovo, helping LCFC earn a monthly revenue record of more than 10 billion yuan (about 1.41 billion U.S. dollars).
On March 27, more than 124,500 units of computers rolled off the production line, registering a record high of daily output at the computer enterprise in east China's Anhui Province, said LCFC.
Electronic devices with a large display such as computers and tablets have become a hit amid the COVID-19 outbreak when more people are housebound to help contain the spread of the virus.
ELECTRONIC INFORMATION MANUFACTURING
Profits of China's electronic information manufacturing sector declined in the first two months of 2020 as the novel coronavirus outbreak hurt the industrial chain, official data showed.
Total profits slumped 87 percent year on year, while operating revenue dropped 14.7 percent from a year earlier, according to a statement by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
ANCIENT BIRD SKELETON
Scientists have found a new species of sandgrouse in rocks dating back 6 to 9 million years in northwest China's Gansu Province, pointing to dry, arid habitats near the edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as it rose to its current extreme altitude.
The new species, found by researchers from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been named Linxiavis inaquosus, and fills a gap in the sandgrouse fossil record.
The fossil of the partial skeleton includes much of the body, such as the shoulder girdles, wishbone, bones from both wings, vertebrae, and part of a leg. Unfortunately, the head is missing, said researchers. Enditem
