MUMBAI, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Mumbai's death toll from COVID-19 touched 100 after nine deaths were reported on Monday, making it the first city in India to reach the three-figure mark, as per the official update by city's civic authority.
Total number of active cases of novel coronavirus in the city reached 1,549 with 150 new cases added on Monday.
India's western state of Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is its political capital, saw its state tally of active novel coronavirus cases rise to 2,064 with 82 persons testing positive on Monday making it the state with the highest number of cases across all states in the country.
As per the latest official update, India has 8,048 active cases of novel coronavirus with 324 deaths reported so far.
In its daily briefing, the federal health ministry official said that no new cases of the novel coronavirus were detected in 25 districts of 15 states across the country in the past two weeks.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to address the nation at 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday morning at the end of three-week nationwide lockdown. Several states have indicated that the lockdown will continue for at least two more weeks.
