KABUL, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains and flash floods claimed the lives of five people including women and children in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan and western Badghis on Wednesday, officials said.
Three persons including women and children lost their lives in flash flood that swept parts of Nasai district in the northern Badakhshan province early Wednesday, a local official said on condition of anonymity.
Floods have also washed away six houses in the district, the official said.
However, Mohammad Ibrahim Qayumi, the governor for Nasai district confirmed the rainstorm and flooding but said, since the affected area is under Taliban control, he couldn't confirm the number of casualties.
Similarly, downpour and flooding have killed two persons and damaged several houses in Jawand district of the western Badghis province on same day, Wednesday, a provincial government official Akhtar Mohammad Hazin said.
Parts of Afghanistan have witnessed heavy rains and floods over the past couple of days.
