TASHKENT, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's Senate, the upper chamber of the parliament, has approved a proposal for the country to become an observer at the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The proposal was initiated and presented early this year by the Cabinet of Ministers, based on an in-depth analysis by leading experts and Senate committees, the Senate said in a statement.

Senate Chairwoman Tanzila Narbaeva said that this important issue related to the socio-economic development of the country has been under discussion for two years.

Cooperation within the EAEU framework will further enhance Uzbekistan's ability to increase foreign trade, attract investment projects and promote development in the transport, communications and cargo transit sectors, and will create more opportunities for Uzbek citizens working in the EAEU member states, the statement said.

Uzbekistan's participation in the EAEU as an observer state will provide an opportunity for the country to make better informed decisions related to the bloc, it added.

The EAEU is a regional bloc in Eurasia, whose member states include Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Armenia. Enditem
