BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Romantic comedy "Stand by Me" topped the box office chart on Thursday, the first day it was screened on the Chinese mainland, figures released by the China Movie Data Information Network showed Friday.
The film, adapted from a Chinese novel, tells a romantic story in which the shy and reserved leading role chases his dream girl although his feelings are not reciprocated. It raked in 38.37 million yuan (5.94 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday.
U.S. sci-fi action film "Free Guy" fell to second place on the chart on Thursday, earning 10.07 million yuan on its 14th day of screening.
Ranking third was the domestic action film "Raging Fire," which generated 6.82 million yuan. Enditem
