BERLIN, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Youngster Jamal Musiala provided a goal and an assist helping the German giants to secure an emphatic 4-1 win over rivals Leipzig in the 4th round of the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann caught a perfect start at his former employer as Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock with just nine minutes played after the Poland international kept his nerves from the spot to convert a handball penalty.
The "Red Bulls" needed some time to recover from the early setback and had to wait until the 35th minute when Angelino pulled wide from promising position to create the first clear-cut opportunity for the hosts.
Bayern almost made it two at the other end of the pitch, but Leon Goretzka couldn't beat Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi from close range with 38 minutes gone.
The hosts should have equalized the scores just before the break but for all that Dani Olmo squandered a presentable chance with all time and space, and only Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to beat.
After the restart, Bayern Munich clinically punished wasteful Leipzig as Musiala benefitted on Alphonso Davies' good build-up work before tapping home past Gulacsi, two minutes into the second half.
The home side thought they had halved the deficit in the 51st minute but Andre Silva's goal was ruled offside by the video assistant referee.
To make things worse for Leipzig, Bayern tripled its lead after Musiala's square pass into the goal area found Leroy Sane, who made no mistake to put the win beyond doubt in the 54th minute.
Leipzig showed a sign of life out of the blue after Konrad Laimer's long-range hammer surprised hapless Neuer four minutes later.
Relentless Bayern wasn't done with the scoring and restored its three-goal advantage after substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting made the most of Joshua Kimmich's through ball in the dying seconds of the game.
With the third straight win in the league Bayern Munich jump on the 2nd place whereas Leipzig slumped to the 13th spot after suffering its second loss in row.
"I think we played well. We played a wild first half, but I think we improved after the half time. What matters at the end of the day is that we won here," Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann said.
"We didn't play too bad. My team tried but it is always hard against Bayern," Leipzig head coach Jesse March said.
On Sunday, Eintracht Frankfurt host Stuttgart, Bochum face Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach encounter Arminia Bielefeld to conclude the 4th round. Enditem
